Letter from Rudy Giuliani

November 5. 2002

Dear Friends,

On September 11th, the United States faced one of its darkest days in history, but that day demonstrated the bravery and courage shown by our uniformed services every day. Without the heroic efforts of these brave men and women -- and the civilian rescue workers called into action - thousands more lives would have been lost. Americans and good people throughout the world followed our heroes' example by rallying together to demonstrate overwhelming resolve, strength, and compassion in the face of adversity.

In the aftermath of the attacks, the organized camp community responded quickly and effectively to support those in need. Through the New York Section of the American Camping Association's Heal the Children Initiative, free lifetime scholarships were offered to children who lost a parent on September 11th. Many camps were organized to aid the victims - children and adults alike. These included Camp Haze, Camp Comfort, and America's Camp, a joint effort of the Twin Towers Fund and CampGroup.

Between August 18 and 25, 2002, 78 children of our lost rescue workers and civilians had the opportunity to be kids again at America's Camp. The Twin Towers Fund was proud to join CampGroup in sponsoring this camp, which proved to have a profound healing benefit for those who attended. This camp experience allowed them to play and laugh as children should, and assisted all of them in building lasting relationships.

Camp provided a foundation for these children to begin to move forward with their lives. My heartfelt thanks go out to the American Camping Association and all of the camps that took the initiative to help the families of those lost on September 11th.

Sincerely,

Rudolph Giuliani
Chairman
Twin Towers Fund
